I had to reinstall win7 from scratch so everything i had was gone. I then decided to go back to win7 and the restoral corrupted the drive to the point that nothing was there. Microsoft would not help in getting them to run. I then ran into issues with some of the base programs that's in windows failed to run. After a few talks with the companies I got a few of them to work. My up grade went good, but i ran into some programs that would not run. Funny, Ubuntu installs on this laptop right out of the box, I reverted back to Win 7 and said to hell with it - I rarely use the Win partition anymore and I don't have time to waste on a buggy OS.

I tried to upgrade it to Win 10 and ran into some of the driver problems others have mentioned. I run Ubuntu on my Toshiba laptop but I kept the original Win 7 partition around. Ubuntu has installed right out of the box for 99% of computers since 2010 or so. About 10 years ago, when I switched to Linux, all the MS fanbois said 'Don't use Linux - you'll spend all your time on the internet hunting for drivers!' Now, that's what the fanbois tell people when they run into Win10 problems. Windows 10 Windows 10 free upgrade nightmare! The nightmare continued and I tried every avenue to get the touchpad working. Hi all, even though my Dell XPS 15z is not officially tested for Windows 10 and probably never will be tested, I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday. I think the best would be to purchase a system with windows 10 rather than any kind of upgrading. Wanted to report this for anyone who is contemplating on upgrading - be careful, be warned, it is not a picnic if things not work right. Actually I dont know which one exactly but most likely to totally remove the touchpad and the system will restore to original.
The nightmare continued and I tried every avenue to get the touchpad working when luckily one worked. Great, I got that done after a few tries.īut then the touchpad stopped working so I could not try a fix unless I bought an external mouse. I chose to revert back to my original Windows 7. The msg I got was that windows 10 was not properly installed and had a few choices retry, restore, revert etc. First, at 50%, my screen went blank for hours after which I decided to turn off my laptop and bring it back up. But turned out to be a nightmare installing it. Was very excited to upgrade to Windows 10, the free upgrade from Microsoft. One thing which some Windows 10 users have complained of is that, after installation, their laptop’s touchpad stops working.
